Lovely lavender

We love seeing visitors enjoying our collection of lavenders. Feel free to walk amongst our lovely flowers but please do be mindful of the bees. They’re slightly drunk on all the nectar!

This field includes a mixture of Lavender angustifolia and the taller, later flowering lavender intermedia, sometimes known as lavandin. The rows contain informative signs about flower colour, period, height, and history.

We have been granted National Collection status for our collection of Lavender intermedia because we have some unique and historically essential varieties. The idea of a National Collection is to preserve rarer plant varieties, so they don’t become lost to cultivation. Some of the lavenders you see here are old commercially farmed varieties that have fallen out of favour but are still beautiful and make excellent garden plants. We also make sure we have the newest varieties so that we can test them for you.
