our cafe

Our charmingly relaxed cafe, set within the original vaulted barn and extending to the Garden Courtyard, is the perfect place to meet with friends and family for breakfast, brunch, lunch and tea.

In warmer months, you can sit outdoors on our garden terrace, brimming with flowers, plants, and trees and take your tea overlooking a view of our fragrant lavender.

Pop in for a coffee and something sweet from our counter or stay for longer and enjoy a dish from our garden kitchen – everyone is welcome to sit down with us and soak up the warm ambience at the heart of the barn.

Our Kitchen

At Long Barn, we cook the seasons. The choice of dishes varies according to the time of year. Simplicity, freshness and good quality produce are key to our seasonally inspired menu.

Spring brings elderflowers and rhubarb into our homemade cakes. In the Summer we make the most of the abundant Hampshire Watercress in salads. In the Autumn we enjoy roasted butternut squash and mushroom risottos, and finally, in Winter, we prepare puddings with seasonal fruits and are always game for pies of any kind.

During feast days and holidays we look to tradition to guide us: mince pies, rich fruit cake and puddings are available from November, and during Easter, we pile up the sticky hot cross buns and chocolate cakes.

Thoughtful, considered, always delicious, enjoy a year of good eating at Long Barn.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea at Long Barn is a wonderfully informal affair, the tiers of scones and sandwiches remain, but with none of the stuffiness of you might find in a fancy hotel.

Perfect for a celebration, the feast proper is a delightful array of classically filled sandwiches and scones, served up with your choice of tea. It’s hard to beat a well-made scone, and we make ours with a hint of lavender, served with a generous offering of Long Barn preserves and Cornish clotted cream.

There are few more lovely spots for afternoon tea than our charming cafe, the tables are always fresh with seasonal flowers. Come to Long Barn to experience a unique take on a traditional favourite past time.

The ritual of afternoon tea owes its origins to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. In the 1800’s it was common to eat only two meals a day, with breakfast very early and dinner occurring late in the evening, she found a mid-afternoon tea break essential. Thank goodness she did!
