Our thread to the past

Alresford has been famous for its Sheep Fairs since the Middle Ages, the animals being herded from all around Hampshire and Wiltshire through drove lanes. Until the late 1800’s the sheep were penned in what is now known as Broad Street.
Long Barn stands upon the site where subsequent Sheep Fairs were conducted, hence our address, ‘The Old Sheep Fair’. Our lavender now grows where once as many as 16,000 sheep were huddled. In light of this fascinating link with Alresford’s trading history, we partnered with master weavers McNutts of Donegal to create a range of wool throws.
